Newbaum's Cotton Cloth Bar Tape 10ft Roll (Single)

GREAT FOR LYRA

Got this tape for my Aerial Lyra hoop and I love it! It’s super durable and has great grip! I would recommend watching the YT video Newbaum made on how to wrap it, if you are not confident in wrapping yet. It will cost more than other tapes so the video helps minimize errors. However, the price is worth it as it lasts so much longer! For my 34in hoop I used 2 30ft rolls & 1 10ft roll.

PERFECT FOR MY LYRA

I love this tape and use it to tape up my aerial hoop. It works way better than tapes that are sold for Aerials, and my last batch stayed on the hoop for over a year of personal use and teaching aerial students before it needed to be replaced.

BEST COTTON BAR TAPE PERIOD

Newbaums is THE handlebar tape for vintage and "Rivendell" type bikes. So far better than the O.G. French ones. It's thicker, longer, and available is a plethora of colors. I have used it since it came onto the scene. You cannot go wrong. Take your time wrapping it and it will last for a loooooong time.

COLORS AND COMFORT

COLORS: There are many to choose from and they are beautiful. Really beautiful. But they do fade. You may not like that. I love it when they fade. I encourage you to do the same. It adds character. Even with some shellac you will see fading. Shellac will change the colors too. Even clear shellac will make the tape very dark at first, but it dries pretty close to the original. Amber shellac obviously yields an amber tint. Also, the more coats, the darker it gets.

COMFORT: Here's where I was sold on Newbaum's. It's the most comfortable tape I've used. If you want a thinner feel, single wrap your bars (2 rolls for drop bars) If you want a thicker feeling bar with a bit of cushion, then definitely double wrap (probably takes 4 rolls to make it happen on drop bars). If you shellac your bars, the feeling of the tape will change at first, but eventually it wears into a great feeling handlebar. So don't be too quick to cast judgement on your recent shellac decision. Give it some miles and you will appreciate it.

CLOTH TAPE ENTHUSIASTS: STOP YOUR SEARCHING:

Newbaum's bar tape is, quite simply, excellent. I had previously used Tressostar cotton bar tape and found it to be chore to apply, and it took far too long to wrap my handlebars with the stuff. Newbaum's was a 180° experience—the cotton has a nice weight and comfortable feel to it, and it was the easiest bar tape install I've ever done (in my limited experience). The grass green color is lovely and vibrant (it has dulled since with daily riding and exposure to grime; I don't use shellac), and I am quite pleased that Newbaum's manufactures a full spectrum of colors when I decide to change tape.

In general—Newbaum's yes, Tressostar no. Make the switch; you will not regret it.

GREAT TEXTURE BUT KIND OF OBNOXIOUS TO APPLY

I bought this tape for my 38" Lyra. 3 rolls is just about enough to cover it but if you have a thicker bar I would get an extra roll just to be safe. The tape is rather narrow so it's a bit of a nightmare to wrap it, especially since it's got sticker backing that you have to peel off as you wrap. However, it feels great on the bar. I've used aerial essentials Lyra tape for some time but I have to replace it every few months and it gets super sticky in the sun and discolors rather quickly. THIS stuff is not sticky at all. Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality but it would be fantastic if they made a thicker roll in the future!
